How many things to talk about in Why Penn - Current Penn students

Since Penn has so many things that can match up to a student’s interest, how many of them do you need to talk about in the Why Penn essay? If your career is undecided, how can you talk about how Penn will help you achieve your goals in life; and how important is this in the essay?

Thanks so much

This essay is very important. Penn loves those who can show love for Penn. You can relate your interests or your past endeavors that you wish to continue doing at Penn.

I’m rewriting mine, and from what I’ve seen, and from what my teachers rant about - the topic is very TELLY, and not SHOWY.
And I guess it’s hard to come out being unique in this essay, so the most that the adcoms will notice may be passion, but it may sound insincere too ><

what i am trying to determine is how many specific things can you talk about Penn without sounding like a bunch of name dropping?

Any of the current dedicated penn students please your valuable comments?

What the essay shouldn’t be is simply a laundry list of things that interest you. You need to be able to expand on why you’re interested in a particular aspect, perhaps connect it to your previous activities and experience, and in doing so, talk about how you would contribute to the Penn community. You’re only given a page to work with, so use that as a guideline. For what its worth, I talked about maybe 3-4 things in my essay.

BUMP
And thanks for the info CDN ^^

I’m currently at Penn and would be happy to read essays via PM.

I would recommend just being honest about why you want to come. The worst thing you can do is sound like an advertisement or sound like your just listing information that can be found on the website

Thanks all for the feedback.
