<p>Short answer: Too many.</p>
<p>But you should be safe with 500-800. I used the Princeton Review apps (400 words), and the words showed up on three of the questions on the real test.</p>
<p>There’s about 8000 and you probably already know 4000 or so. Your tutor isn’t insane (assuming your goal is mastery of all SAT-style vocab).</p>
<p>That’s a lot to take in. You won’t even come across most of those by the time you take the test. You should look at the most common words that appear on the SAT but don’t ignore your tutor either. Those words may not all appear on the test but it will definitely give you a solid foundation for the future.</p>
