How many years at a different university before transferring out?

How much time at a four year univsersity is required before being allowed to submit an application to MIT? Can I submit my application after my first year at college?

Only one year is necessary before transferring. From the Transfer Admissions website:

Okay, one more question What’s the bare minimum for a GPA they’re looking for. 3.0, 3.5?

I’m thinking of transfering too, MIT has been my #1 since day one. But after the EA deferal and RD rejection I’m not sure if its worth it.

In any event, does the one year waiting period mean that we apply during freshman year of college or during sophomore year of college?

I’d expect that you would want to have a 4.0 or very close to it, and you’ll need a lot more than a gpa too (they only accept a few transfers every year)

MIT accepted 6/300, so if somehow only current MIT students applied for readmission aka transfer to MIT, and only 1 in 50 got in (with admission based only on current academic success), then I’m guessing the cutoff would be something like 4.9/5.0. So the more I think about it, you probably need a perfect GPA, unless you’re transferring from another top ten school, then close to a perfect GPA would be OK. In my experience, the students MIT accepts as transfers usually would be overqualified for admission if they were freshman, and are accepted because they can show that culturally they are a perfect fit for MIT whereas they are unhappy at their curent school.
