Great news for those who have planned to apply by June 2020.
What’s the “great news”?
@texaspg I have no idea what test they are giving. I do know it involves sticking a swab WAY up the nose. In her city, it’s taking about 3/4 days to get results back… but yesterday was day 4 for her, and SHE IS THE SHIFT MANAGER. So, she’s holed up in her room until she gets the results back!
TMDSAS has posted updated application policies on its website:
https://www.txhes.com/newsroom/updates/tmdsas-covid-impacts-ey21.html
-
the medical school application deadline has been extended to Oct 30, 2020.
-
the deadline for test scores and letters of evaluation has been extended to November 13th, 2020
-
medical schools will read an application without an MCAT score, but will not extend an interview invitation until the MCAT score has been received.
-
TMDSAS member institutions have agreed to accept all courses graded as pass/fail or credit/no-credit as equivalent to graded courses during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically the spring 2020 academic term (including winter 2020 quarter term).
-
all prerequisite courses that were transitioned to an online format in the spring 2020 (including winter 2020 quarter term) and summer 2020 academic terms will be applied towards the education requirements for all TMDSAS member institutions.
Anyone who has not taken an MCAT in Texas will be at a huge disadvantage. The application date does not mean whole lot in Texas since they review first come first serve in terms complete applications.
D applied in the middle of June but it only got released a month later. Then several schools which had CASPer requirement waited until those scores were released to the schools. She started receiving interviews second week of August for mid to late October right after her application cleared. By then most schools were backlogged and by mid October, they had issued most of their interview slots and all schools close interview season by mid December with a couple of exceptions (UT Houston and Southwestern).
Unless TMDSAS has pushed the match date by a month to late February, most of this will benefit those who have an existing MCAT score or even reapplicants.
Just popping in to say my daughter’s COVID test was negative and she is back working at the testing center! She will work there until April 23rd, then take 2 weeks off before coming home for a couple weeks, then she’s moving across country to her start her residency! Hoping that travel restrictions will be lifted by then so we can go with her and enjoy some time together since her Europe trip/graduation present was cancelled!
@moonpie very glad to hear the news!
Pretty cool story about our state flagship and how they are dealing with COVID! https://wreg.com/news/memphis-medical-students-volunteer-on-the-front-line-of-covid-19-testing/
