Hello!

I am interested in both Williams College adn Washington University In St.Luis. I know that currently I am in a low income market (under 20k annually) and I wantedto know if that equates to good aid at both of these schools?

Im also lookign into
- bowling green state
- university of michigan
- oakland university

thank you.

I think the first 2 schools meet need. However, if you have a “non-custodial parent”, then his income may count as well.

The other schools may not have much aid to give. You will likely qualify for a Pell Grant of $5550 and a student loan of $5500…and maybe some work-study. You may get gapped.

Are you a citizen or green card resident, if not, then you won’t get the above mentioned aid.

If you are a citizen, are you a Mich resident?

edited to add…I see that you posted this…

*Scholorships for students above 3.0 but under 3.5
*

If your GPA is below a 3.5, then your chances at schools like WashU and Williams are probably very slim. What is your class ranking?

im currently ranked 86 out of 262 students.
Although my gpa is a ~3.2 I go to a college prep high school so the rigor of my courses are high.

I don’t think you can get into Williams since your rank and GPA are not high.

What are your test scores?

What state are you in?

St. Louis will not likely be affordable. They don’t meet need and your stats aren’t high enough for big merit from them.

Do your state schools help low-income students with costs? Does your state have state aid? If so, then your state schools may be your best bets.

I could be mistaken but I believe Wash U St. Louis meets full need…and they do not package loans for very low income students.

Both Wash U and Williams are extremely competitive schools with regards to admissions. To the OP…what were your ACT or SAT scores?

Both of these are public universities…which one (if any) are you an instate resident for? UMichigan requires the CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA…so do WashU and Williams, I believe.

oops, for some reason I thought she was also applying to St. Louis U.

I don’t think she has the stats for Wash U.

I am a Michigan Resident.

Ive talked to some recruiters from WUSTL, and U of M and im pretty sure i can get admitted.

I am also very low income.

Im ranked in the top 40% of my class, and i attend a magnet college prep high school. I am not in sports, but I am very proficient in Jrtoc and president of a buildOn (volunteer organization) chapter in my school. I have also done volunteer work in Africa.

I dont know if these schools have aid for volunteerism and leadership, but i personify those.

my gpa is at a 3.28 right now, but my school requires me to take 4 years of math, science, english, social studies, and foreign language. And by the time i graduate i would have taken 3 AP courses.

You may have some attributes that are attractive to WashU, Williams and such schools, and you certainly should apply to them as reach schools. They would be great schools to get acceptances because they do meet 100% of need . If you have an non custodial parent in the picture somewhere, that is something that could be an issue, just to let you know since PROFILE which is the calculator used, does include both parents in most cases. Both schools are very selective and no one really can take admissions to them as granted. They are reach schools. It is great to have some of those on your list.

You will come up with a lot of attractive options from a number of schools. The most important thing to do is to find a nice safety school that you will be able to afford, if schools with conditions do not pan out. Once you have that option covered, you can go to town with any and all possibilities with absolute impunity because you have your back covered. That is the crux of the college search. Everything and anything is possible, but finding some good sure things is the tough part and once that is done, you can buy all the lottery tickets you want.
