How much are previous scores considered?

First time posting here. I looked through the last two pages and didn’t see this topic, so I thought I’d ask. Try not to bite my head off, please.

A lot of colleges say that they’ll take your best scores, but do they consider your other ones too, and if so, how much? For example, first time taking the SATs, my scores were CR640/M680/W700. The second time it was CR730/M800/W740. I mean, the CR and math were really huge jumps (don’t ask me why; I have no clue. I didn’t take any classes or do anything extra or study at -all-.) I scored 250 points more than I did the first time I take it, so how will colleges look at that?

I’m kind of more interested in like the higher-caliber schools like Ivy Leagues. Or does it make any difference?

Your first scores really won’t make any difference. The colleges will use your better (in this case amazing) scores. Don’t even THINK about worrying about your previous scores.

wow kyuu, i got the same scores my first time, and im taking them for the last time in october, how did u go from a 1320 to a 1530 thats crazy

People new to this forum usually don’t notice the search function right away, which is why I have so many posts on this topic. I’ll link here to my main FAQ post related to your question.

Bottom line: Don’t worry about it. You learned something. Colleges like learners.
