how much battery life do you need?

This laptop i’m looking at has 2 hrs 40 min of battery life when using dedicated graphics and 4 hours of battery life when using integrated graphics. I don’t really know how i’ll being using a my laptop as i’ve never had one before but is this enough battery life for the average college student? How much battery life is enough do you think?

Depends on way too many factors. None of us know you or how you will use your laptop. Some people use it on train rides for hours upon hours whereas others just need it to last an hour long lecture.

Anything with more than three hours should be good.

I only consider laptops with 4+ hours of battery because the advertised is always the absolute max, like when you’re using power saver mode and whatever, and the actual is 1-1.5 hours less.

You have to buy the laptop with one or the other graphics cards. Unless you are going on an overseas flight, it is not worth the hassle of taking out your graphics card when you need more batter time (this presumes that the laptop still has the integrated graphics card). A better option would be to get additional batteries (and a charger) if you need more run-time. Note: Batteries can be quite expensive.

You can’t take out the graphics cards in notebooks. In almost all notebooks they are soldered to the motherboard to save space. There are some that have both a dedicated and integrated graphics card so you can choose battery life or power.
