How much can amazing recs help?

Just wondering, since I am getting recs from two teachers who taught classes that I got Bs in (both during junior year). Those Bs really ruined my junior year GPA, but my teachers really like me and I’m sure that they’ll write very good recs. If those teachers write really good recs for me and say that I worked very hard and was very active in their classes, will my Bs be able to be overlooked? Because I wanted to get a 4.0 during junior year to have a good upward trend (I had horrible freshman + sophomore years), but those 2 classes were really hard so my GPA was still not very good.

Good LORs do not erase grades.

Yeah unfortunately :(

But will great LORs help dispel the impression that I’m a “smart but lazy” student or ameliorate my low GPA? Because my stats will probably give me that kind of impression (low GPA, high test scores).

If you have a 3.0, won’t help unless it was due to a serious reason. A 3.4+ and good recs will help, especially if it was an AP class. Colleges will view it as the class was hard and the teacher was difficult, but you put forth effort and this was recognized by the teacher. Additionally, good AP scores justify this.
