I am club president of the Literary Magazine club
I am a member of Interact (community service club)
I am a leader for my church’s Sunday school.
In addition, I am in the newspaper club.
Are these enough clubs. Enough leadership roles? What will the UCs think?
Quality over quantity. Do those clubs mean anything to you?
You can have dozens of leadership positions and not get into a UC. They want passion, not a laundry list of clubs.
What do you suggest I do? Should I talk about what these clubs mean to me in my essays? I am interested in writing. Should I talk about that?
Man you need like 20 clubs to even get into UCM. Gotta stack up pronto!!
No just kidding. For most UC’s, Grades>Clubs or any other EC for that matter.
For the more selective ones, they look at quality over quantity. First make sure you actually enjoy the things you’re doing in that club. Then find ways to make you and the club more involved in the community.
Leader of Literary Magazine, maybe write a magazine for the school to read or something.
Newspaper Club, maybe help write the school newspaper, get editor-in chief.
Church Sunday School—Go on church missions
Community Service Club: Do community service that you like.
If you’re just interested in writing, then talking about it won’t help you, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t put it on there though. However, if you can demonstrate your interest in writing through being on the school newspaper etc. then that’s great.
Yes you are right, that is a great essay topic to write about.
They really don’t care about EC’s too much- as long as you have something, it doesn’t matter what it is. They have always said grades/SAT are a first priority above extracurricular activities.
I think there’s a limit to how many you can put no? I could be mistaken but when I filled out the application I’m pretty sure you could only put 5. Although there were spaces for other activities that you could probably fit other EC’s into.
