how much do first semester grades count?

If you go, say, two points below your cumulative high school gpa in your first semester of senior year, can you kiss your acceptance good bye, or do the Ivies wait till senior year is over to decide if you are still their material?

2 points? as in go from a 3.9 to a 1.9?
Or do you mean 3.9 to a 3.7?

Basically, don’t get a ton of Cs if you’ve been making straight As.
I will get probably three Bs. A little worried.

If you mean two points as the difference between a 95 average and a 93 average, I’m sure you have nothing to worry about.

This is freaking me out the most at the moment. I’m probably going to get 2-3 B’s this semester too (but hopefully only one if I get lucky).

I’m freaking out about this as well:

I’m getting straight A’s and A+'s in all of my classes except for one C! It’s in AP Calculus though, and the teacher is such a hard***. Like, our last test had a class average of 57%, but he said he wasn’t going to curve it because our F’s were just wake-up calls to study the material for the AP exam. Do you guys think that Yale will understand that it’s a challenging class (even though I want to go into engineering and I’ve always done very well in math?)

i hope they count a lot…my lowest grade is a 94 ;)…im talking 6 AP’s (but easy ones tho)

I don’t think 3 Bs would keep you out, eating food. One admit from my school broke the law and they still kept him. He matriculated very recently. And by breaking the law I don’t mean he went over the speed limit.

yalerose, I mean from a 95.5 to a 93.5 or so…I don’t even know anymore. Grades kind of went on the back burner for me for the past four months. Apps coupled with senioritis? Yup, guess I’ll save what little academic motivation I have left for my essays!

my grades went up, so I hope they count!

Just curious, how badly did he break the law? Now that I’m planning on it, but I’m just wondering where colleges would draw the line.

I hope they count a lot… My WGPA is 4.86 but for senior year it should be 5.13 in tough AP’s. Valedictorians average around 4.9… not quite sure how that happened but I’ll take it lol.

Let’s just say the kid who “broke the law” got a little carried away with his booze.
