How Much Do Honors Societies Really Matter?

I’m in the second semester of my junior year, and I made a bit of a mistake last year when I got honor cord hungry and joined 5 different honors societies. Them being National Honors Society, National English Honors Society, Rho Kappa, Science National Honors Society, and French Honors Society. I met all of my requirements last semester, but I’ve been completely swarmed with work from other extracurriculars and can not keep up with the requirements. I’m going to major in business, so basically none of the honors societies actually have any relevance to my passion, nor do I hold any leadership positions. I know I’d like to stay in regular NHS just because I feel like that’d be the most important, and possibly one or two others, but would it matter to colleges if I dropped the others (especially SNHS).

My S20 was not in a single honor society and has been accepted to many top colleges already… I suggest that you choose the ones most important to you and drop the others.

Unless they are very selective and known for being so, Honors societies don’t matter.

They would matter if you were chapter President of one of the bigger/more well-known societies.

There is pretty much no difference between staying as an inactive/non-officer member and not being a member.
