How much do math camps weigh class rank?

So I’m a sophomore applying to math camps like HSMC, PROMYS, ROSS, and HCSSiM. I know that three out of four require a transcript, and last year when I applied to HSMC they specifically asked for class rank (back then I was 1/392 both weighted and unweighted).

This year, I took four IB classes and got one B in IB Econ. This year, my school also changed the transcript format so only unweighted rank is shown. I have a 3.95 and am ranked 62/381, which is obviously not the best. However, my weighted rank is 2/381, which is better. I had my counselor write in the weighted rank on the paper and then sign it, but I’m not sure if that’s going to help or not.

Will my poor class rank lower my chances of getting into these programs?
Thanks!

Hey! I’ve attended PROMYS for two years now. I think I can give you some advice, but don’t 100% trust it. So, as far as I can tell, your poor class rank probably will affect some part, but in the most part, I think it won’t really matter. Getting into mathcamp isn’t quite the same as getting into college. I would say that the biggest thing you should be portraying is yourself( cliche LOL). The biggest thing that these mathcamps are looking for is if you actually are able to “handle and survive” six or less whole weeks of only math.

I wouldn’t say that your poor class rank will affect the decisions way too much as that you don’t have a shot. So, write those essays and solve those problems to prove to the camps you’re more than the numbers and stats that describe you.
