How much do they care about SAT Writing?

I got an 800CR, 680 M, and a 650W. I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth to take the SAT’s again to raise the writing score.

Does Wesleyan care about the writing?

I don’t know the situation at Wesleyan in particular, but most highly selective schools either ignore the writing section entirely or treat it like a distant third to the two main scores. The top schools do not add the three scores together and look at your total (contrary to what some students think).

Personally, I wouldn’t worry at all about the writing score. I’d be tempted to take the SAT again to see if I could get the math over 700, but certainly the 800 on CR will make a lot of folks stand up and take notice regardless.

The writing score is pretty easy to raise especially for someone with an 800 CR. Most kids do better on the SATs on the second try, anyway, so I’d roll the dice. When my daughter re-took the SATs, she focused on only one section (CR) but then raised each section considerably. She was quite relaxed knowing that she only needed to raise the one score and, in fact, she went up on all three. You can’t raise CR (bravo to you!) but I’d be surprised if you didn’t raise one of the other two sections. Good luck.

The writing section is pretty formulaic, so you should be able to improve. Really try to improve the math score if you can. i would definitely retake.

I got my results today…

770 M
690 CR
620 W

I tanked the writing! I hope schools dont look at that!
