How much do you all study?

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?
I didn’t really study for my SATs. My plan was to take it once without much studying then study a lot and take it again, but I was happy with my first score. I studied for SAT 2s, though.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?
Definitely not. I take what I’m interested in.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?
A ton. Though I’ve occasionally had tests that required really little studying, most probably average about 3 hours. Sophmore year, my Western History class required about 8-10 hours of study for each test. Final exams require even more.

I’m suprised by how little most people here study. You just couldn’t get away with that at my school. My school’s basically impossible, so if you don’t study for many hours, you basically fail, no matter how smart you are.

I think grades and learning are both important. Normally, the grade reflects how much I’ve learned.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?
Yeah. I always look over my tests and papers, more out of my own curiosity than anything else.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?
Other things? That’s vague. They’re important, but not the be-all-end-all. I like doing well, but I don’t judge myself solely on the grades I get!

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

Countless hours of prep, at least 6 hours(summer) per day,its my final hope for my future =( also doing a prep course and self studying

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

Not neccesarly to look good, but i take all the classes that are beyond the minimum =) 5 years of science 6 APs out of 8, 2 courses at local comunity college.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

Since my grades never reflect my effort, My focus is on learning the subject, grades are just numbers and most of the time the students tend to manipulate the grades in there favor. I study several hours for exams, 1 1/2 hour week before exam, 2 hours leading up to exam, after school help etc. Some reason my teachers consider me an anamoly because tests are just not built for me, and don’t reflect my effort.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

Hell no…

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

since i might have to pursue comunity college, they are the number one factor for me. I still have a bit of my life left, but most of the time its to fix my grades.

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

I studied for a week for the May Sat and a week ( combined) for all 3 SAT 2’s

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

Don’t really get to choose classes because of IB Program

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

Im a horrible studier. I have problems staying focused in class at times , I’m not good at studying. Basically I read the chapter the night before the test and pay attention during class review. The focus is on the GRADE. In fact, grades have been detrimental to my love of learning.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?
Nope , and I do just enough work to get A-'s in my humanities classes and occasionaly science but B’s in my math classes.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

Grades are very important- not more important than my life however.

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

Well I’ve taken a couple practice tests, but that’s it.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

Only once. The only reason I’m taking 4 years of French is because colleges like foreign languages and it’s an easy A. I really detest the subject though.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

I only study for my exams if I have to get an 80%+ to maintain my A in the class. This semester, I won’t be studying for any of them.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

We’re not allowed to see our finals, but I wouldn’t want to anyways. As long as I got my A, I’m happy.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

I do whatever is necessary to get all As, but I’m definitely not one of those crazy people that are only happy with 100%.

1) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it? i borrowed a friends book the night before the ACT to get myself familiar w/ the format. nothing for SAT. came out pretty well 2200/33.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?
i choose classes that i think will look good on my resume. you can’t really take a class in highschool that will truly affect ur education. u’ll take the same stuff and better stuff in college.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?
i study a lot for spanish and history the night before. math is pretty easy and physics was a joke this year. i study to get the grade.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?
yeah. just to see what i missed. i did that in physics.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?
grades are important but a B isn’t the end of the world. i have a life outside of school unlike a lot of kids at my school

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

All I do is study vocabulary and refine my grammar skills. :D

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

My GPA isn’t very high right now, so I have no choice but to pick AP classes and work hard to bring it up; however, all the classes I pick are for a reason.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

I don’t study too much in any subject. When I get home from school, I review the material I learned in my classes (and study concepts I don’t understand). I just don’t have the time to study - homework occupies almost all of my free time.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

Haha, no.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

Not too important. If I study, I’ll get good grades.

I’m kinda too lazy to answer all five questions (terrible I know) so I’ll answer the header question.

As little as possible

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

Lately I’ve rarely studied. I’m just too lazy, and I’m not going to be taking them until the next school year, so I’m not in crazy SAT/ACT mode right now. But during the summer I’m going to be studying as much as I can while still having a good summer.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

Usually, it’ll go hand in hand and the classes I’d like to take are classes that look good. Unless, it’s something like photography (which isn’t offered at my stupid school but was at my old school, dangit!), which I would want to take as much as possible regardless of admissions.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

This year, I have ben smart and have studied a day or two beforehand at least to better prepare myself for an hour or so each night. It really depends on the class. It could be less or more. As far as AP tests go, it again depends on the subject. But I will usually start studying a month in advance, and trying to study every night and free class time I can.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

After finals, yes. I want to know the information. But to study before finals knowing you’ll still have an A when you don’t even take it? No. Probably a little to be safe, but come on. Who does? You have a good grade, and that’s what’s going to show on the transcript. And most likely, you already know your information. Rest a little bit and take it easy.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

Right now school and extracurrics are on top of my list. During this school year, I would always make at least an hour for Grey’s Anatomy and America’s Next Top Model (I can’t help myself with those two! Top Model is HILARIOUS. And so is Grey’s. But Top Model is just hilarious to watch the silly people, and Tyra Banks.), but Grey’s has gotten really stupid in my opinion. And judging by my self-control, I could probably stop watching Top Model too next school year. Of course, I usually end up hording hours of TV in my freetime on weekends.

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

I studied for SAT’s, but it was just one hour everyday of going through exercises. Not excessive amounts.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

I have done that only once, and that was APUSH. It was either that or getting stuck with the Regular kids, and there was no way I was taking a regular class. It’s bad enough with religion not having honors or something.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

I learn the subject as I get the grade. I typically study for a little while, depending on what subject. If it’s an AP course, then it could be many hours. If not, it’s more like 45 minutes of just glancing over everything. Getting an A in honors courses really is not difficult.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

I’d look at it for a little bit. If I could get a 50% and keep my A, I would not be studying very much. It would be a waste of my time, since I probably would know the material already anyway.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

It’s very important, but there’s always other things in life too. I just try to keep it all in perspective.

1.) Yes. I took a few practice tests, but no hardcore review or anything like that.

2.) Every time. And I regret that.

3.) About 20 minutes. If I get it, I get it. If I don’t, I’ll BS it. I’m a good testtaker. It’s usually about the grade, though.

4.) Nope.

5.) They’re important, but I consider things I do outside of school to be just as important. Social events > grades as well.

1.) Do you study for the SATs and ACTs? If so, how much effort do you put into it?

I would a lot of effort into it if I was at that point in my education.

2.) How often do you choose classes for the sole purpose of having it look good on college and increasing your GPA? Do you do it even if it’s a detriment to your true education?

All the time. The only part of my education in high school I truly care about is math.

3.) About how long do you study for exams in each subject? Is the focus more on getting the grade or learning the subject?

As much as I need in order to achieve an A. It’s focused on getting the grade.

4.) It’s right after finals, and you just found out that you got good enough of a test grade to get you a solid A in the class. Would you still go over your test?

No.

5.) How important are grades to you compared to other things?

Family
Grades
everything else…

Having strong grades is my ticket out of low class living for the rest of eternity.

1). I took a couple practice tests the week before the SAT and ACT

2). Sure, my classes do look good to colleges, but I do not just take classes for that. I have to be interested in it, the teacher has to be alright, and it has to be worthwhile.

3). I hardly study for exams, except once. I slacked off all semester and needed 100% on my precalc final last year to get an A. I got 100%, hells yeah. I studied for like, 5 hours. I usually just don’t need to study, but I like learning the subject. things just stick inside my brain, and i don’t need to study.

4.) Yeah, I always want to look at my tests. I don’t know why. I think I am a perfectionist.

5.) Grades are pretty important, but again, its so easy for me to get an A, its not really a concern. I will not kill myself if I get an A- or something, but it doesn’t feel good. I think maintaining a good personality is really important.

I have to admit though that unless it’s a math class, I really don’t learn the subject until exams come around. :S
