How much does a "tip" from a coach help?

D attends good prep school has over 4.0, lots of ECs, test scores are within Wash U range, but on low side. Recruited by coach and told she was a top recruit and that he would give her a tip if she applied ED. Anyone have a sense of how much that helps with admissions?

i applied rd last year and got accepted.
i had very similar credentials to your d (above 4.0 lots of ecs and leadership, 12 varsity letters) and had a coach tell me that while he can’t promise anything it is just another positive mark on your application.
however i feel like it made the difference in my decision, meaning the coach’s tip (and the fact i applied to engineering as a female) was the thing that put me over the top.

I concur with roses. I don’t speak from my own experience (I’m only a senior who is applying this year), but my brother applied RD and was being recruited for cross country and track. 2 weeks before the decisions came out, he got a phone call (which was unusual since they had primarily communicated via email) from the coach, asking him that if he was accepted into Washu, would he be going there. He said yes, and lo and behold, 2 weeks later he got accepted. maybe coincidence. probably not.

I believe Wustl is D3 and usually when a D3 coach offers you a tip, you are getting in.

I got a call from the rowing coach because I expressed interest in the program and he said that he would let admissions know that he was interested in me as a student athlete. He apparently was able to look at my app as he made a comment that I impressed someone with my interview. make of that what you will.

applied with 3.69 GPA (at a top flight public school) and 2030 on SATs, got help from the soccer coach, got accepted today
