How much does an upward grade trajectory help with admissions?

Hello,

I am just wondering how much grade improvement throughout high school can help with college admissions. For example, freshman year I got a 3.446, and sophomore and junior year I got 4.0’s. Junior year, I took all IB classes as well.

I go to an elite public magnet high school, that is known for its difficulty. It is very rare to get a 4.0 junior year. My cumulative GPA is still only s 3.81 though, which I am concerned about.

So, does having improved grades really help at all?

Thanks in Advance.

Of course it helps, and beats the opposite or any alternatives. Many college ignore freshman grades, furthemore. I visited many colleges with my sons, and almost every one of them listed “most demanding available” curriculum as the first thing they looked for. If the IB diploma program is the toughest course-load at your school, and you are getting As in it, then your grades will look fine. Your weighted GPA is probably over 4.0 if your unweighted is 3.8. Don’t worry.

More like a few but, yes, some do (many publics in CA).
