Hey guys. As you probably guessed by the title, I’m wondering how much showing interest in Georgetown affects your chances of admission. I was deferred after applying EA, but I sent in an update letter with some new information; I specifically said at the end of it that Georgetown is my first-choice school. Also, I sent in an extra letter of recommendation, and the teacher that wrote it agreed to mention that Georgetown is my first choice. I’m putting my stats up if you don’t mind sharing your thoughts on my chances of admission, but if you have any thoughts about Georgetown/showing interest in general, I’d be glad to hear them. Thanks!

PS - I have visited the campus, but I’m not sure if Georgetown tracks campus visits. If anyone could give me some insight on this, I’d appreciate it!

Your stats are very, very similar to mine, with the exception of the fact that I think (?) I may have had more leadership positions, in mostly the same activities, and slightly more varsity athletic experience. But essentially the same, and I was accepted ea. In letters they sent to accepted students after admission, they notes specific things in our applications that they were impressed with, and they mentioned my Girl Scout Gold Award (considered the equivalent of Eagle Scout) in mine, so that should help you. Fingers crossed.

I asked the admissions counselor that came for a special session at my school, directly, if demonstrated interest plays a factor in admissions. He said that it doesn’t play a factor in admissions until it comes down to the waitlist-- when it ALL comes down to demonstrated interest. For deferral, he said to:
Send a letter, expressing interest and updating the admissions office on your status.
Send an additional recommendation.
…both of which you’ve done. So it looks good to me :] good luck!

I sent an additional recommendation after I was deferred. I didn’t even think of sending a letter of interest. Would it be too late? Would they be bothered by the extra paper?

I sent in both an extra letter of recommendation and a letter illustrating my interest in georgetown. Good question about whether or not they get annoyed. I certainly hope not, but the same thought crossed my mind.

My main concern now is that it’s too late lol. And I feel like it would just be weird to say “I didn’t want to bother you with the extra paper, but I just wanted to explain how much I…”
