i know this seems impossible but i actually have a couple friends who have no ECs and my ECs are pretty limited… how much would that hurt you?

like my ECs are Freshman BBall, JV BBall, Varsity and then Varsity again next year, after school tutoring at my school once a week for my junior year, then some random ones like Habitat for Humanity and Volunteering with my church which probably combine to about 50 hours

BUT THE ORIGINAL QUESTION: What if somebody has literally no ECs… or if their only EC was a sport that they played, or even worse if their only EC was a rec league that they played in? how much would that hurt them?

Depends on where you’re apply. I’d say that at the top 25-30, it will hurt you. However, an EC isn’t necessarily a club or organization you participated in; it could be personal endeavors, too. Just don’t list Halo 2 and you should be okay. :)

how about halo 3… semi-pro… top 25 clan?

Lol no dude, halo won’t help you get into college :).

Just put “hardcore gaming” on there. I’m sure they’ll understand.

how would it look if you apply to a college like Purdue… how much would it affect somebody’s chances if they had very few or no ECs?

Honestly, only someone from a college like Purdue can tell you that. The obvious answer is that it will hurt you but it really depends on what the person’s grades are.

I’m a guild leader in World of warcraft. my guild has downed illidan. that shows great leadership.can i put that down?

In general, public universities make their admissions decisions almost wholly on state of residence and stats. The exception is that recruited athletes get a boost. Otherwise, in general, ECs count only for merit aid.

“I’m a guild leader in World of warcraft. my guild has downed illidan. that shows great leadership.can i put that down?”

dude go for it… im gonna put down my halo exploits…

but seriously i was wondering like to what extent it hurts when u are applying in the 40-80 range on USNews’s rankings cuz thats where myself and a couple of friends are applying…

we were hoping to go to the same college and i was wondering what kind of a difference does the “no ec” (or few ECs in my case) type of thing play in a college in that 40-80 range
