How much does Interview affect application?

I feel like I screwed up my interview pretty badly (about a month ago) for various reasons. I’ve heard in many places that the interview is not heavily factored in at all. Is that true?

Also second question. If I take a gap year and reapply to MIT again (if I don’t get in this year), will I be able to take another interview, and in that case will the new interview notes replace the old ones, or will the old interview stay in record?

Interesting questions. We had in my region several candidates who were reapplying after applying last year. In each of those cases we reassigned the candidate to a different interviewer, and yes, the new application is a whole new application and the new interview notes completely replace the old.

Most students planning a gap year gain acceptance from MIT and then defer their admissions date for a year. It is just easier to apply while in school and with easy access to things like teacher recommendations.

Also my experience tells me that students are often wrong about how the interview went, for good and for ill.
