How much does it help to have a patent?

I’m debating of whether to apply early to Stanford or not. My stats are pretty average: [lzhang’s College Application Tracker | My Chances.net - College admissions predictions.](http://college.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/view/index.php?id=17347&app=college)
I only want to apply to Stanford early only if I believe that I can stand a good chance(>50%). One aspect that I think will standout is that I am in the process of applying for a patent(I probably won’t be able to apply for the patent before the college app deadlines). I know that my patent is original and useful, its something I’ve been working on at my job at the local university. Would having this be enough to differentiate me amongst the thousands of other students with stats like mine?

I am still working on making my stats better. I will be taking the ACT again, and this time hopefully get 34+.

I’m currently debating early app between cornell and stanford. Of course one is early decision, the other is early action. I think I stand a better chance getting into Cornell, but stanford appeals more to me. Can I get any guidance here? Thanks!

That does help you stand out in Stanford’s application pool so if you are going to apply, be sure to put that in as additional information. Well, do apply if you are sure Stanford is your first choice.

No one can realistically have 50%+ chance of getting into any of HYPSM unless you have an international Olympiad gold medal or similar sort of achievement so it all comes down to the luck of the draw really.
