How much does it help?

My highest reach, dream school is Northwestern. I understand that I probably won’t get in. However, I was wondering how much exactly placing nationally in a sport (namely, crew) will help me. It is the one thing I’m 100% committed to in school, and this year looks to be especially promising as far as winning races.

I’m just not physically big enough to be recruited–there’s no way. I’m more interested in how my success in the sport will affect my chances of getting into schools. Does it look better to do well? Does it even make a difference?

Thanks

It does help, as far as EC’s/awards are concerned, possibly hook but that’s probably if you’re the top in the nation. Doing well will make a small impact, but more importantly showing depth of interest (not doing for just 1 yr). You can write about your passion for the sport, but beyond that you need to have good stats to have a chance. Doing well in sports could help push you over the hump but won’t get you in alone!

Would doing well in a sport that you won’t be playing in college make a difference?

^ It should make a difference as much as any EC would - showing dedication and passion.
