How much does Major Interested in Count for?

I applied to the Rutgers Business school and picked finance for major interested.

How much does this major matter in admissions? I also did CAS Pre Med/Dental.

Is it harder to get into certain schools due to your major or do they just base it on the school?

i think it’s harder for some majors, because i know people with lower stats than me who got in before me for “easier majors” while i applied for philosophy which is one of the strongest programs at rutgers. i could be mistaken though.

correct basil. it truly depends on major. business and pharm at Rutgers are probably the most difficult to get into. as for pre-vet (i know a person who got accepted in 5 days) is probably easier to get into because not many undergrads pursue it. so isleeptolate, finance will be pretty tough unless you have good stats. good luck.

Do you need to designate a “major” or can you simply say “undecided” ? If you can do the latter, how will ) that effect one’s chance for admission ?

Yeah it says it wont affect admissions though right? Didnt it say that?

Also if i do get accepted into the CAS and i picked pre med for major…does that mean i HAVE TO do pre med. I thought it was more or less a survey type question.

i don’t think you HAVE TO do premed, i believe you can change it. (key word-> believe) you should call up the admissions office. it doesn’t sound right becasue lets say if you PURPOSELY pursue latino studies(easy major to get into) to get an easy admission into CAS, but then want to change it to philospohy,(harder major to get into) it doesn’t seem fair.

The major may play a role for the business school.

When RBS wasn’t a four-year school, you applied your sophomore year to the school and a certain major (though you did also pick back-up majors within the school if you didn’t get accepted to your first pick). RBS allotted a certain number of spaces to each major and basically accepted students by ranking GPAs and taking the top whatever number.
