How much does mentored research help?

I’m performing research in a lab with a PhD mentor and a bunch of grad students for six weeks. I will produce a poster and a 12 page paper. The lab is a ChemE lab and I plan to major in ChemE in college

I interview for an Ivy. Every kid-and I mean every kid-- I interviewed had done some sort of research over the summer at a lab. A few got admitted; most didn’t. It’s impossible to say how much this or that piece or your application package will help or hurt your admissions chances at this or that school.

That said, it sounds like a great opportunity to get experience and explore ChemE as a career, so it’s clearly a plus in that respect.
