How much does the midyear report count? I happened to do better than expected; I got a 4.0 this semester and my rank might move from 3 to 2 or 1, but I heard colleges don’t really care as long as you don’t get C’s or lower. How much does a good midyear report count for schools like Duke, Stanford, Yale, etc.?

I don’t think it will make a huge difference in your account. I believe that schools want to see if you are still on track and performing the way your previous transcript and application indicated. That said, it will only help you. Congrats on terrific grades. Good luck on writing your commencement address!!!

If you were on the borderline between ACCEPT/REJECT, this may tip you toward ACCEPT in some schools.
