Hi! Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I am going to be majoring in Art Studio in college. My gpa is pretty good (4.3), and I am in the top 5 percentile at my competitive high school, but how much do you think colleges will weigh my ACT score (mid-twenties)? Honestly, my score is not that great because I am a horrible test-taker, but do you honestly think they will be paying a lot of attention to that because I will be an Art major? Will they not expect that much of art students?

Also, I am applying to mostly public schools (UC’s) in California. I am curious about what you have to say.

Like most public schools, the UCs which are not named Berkeley UCLA and maybe UCSD basically just plug your numbers into a formula. GPA is weighted highest, but SAT/ACT isn’t weighted that much less. (In practice, it’s pretty likely those three schools do something of the kind too, even if they evaluate holistically later and even if they say they don’t.)

I mean, you’ll still be perfectly competitive for any UC (Berkeley is iffy), but I can’t tell you the low ACT score won’t matter.
