I got a 31 comp but an 8 essay score. How is this going to affect me? How can I do better on the essay next time I take it?

It depends on the school. You can tell from their Common Data Set whether a particular school uses the writing scores on ACT or SAT. A lot of colleges do not use it, and it does not matter.

The two best ways to improve your writing score are like to 1) practice - write a lot. keep a journal. do extra essays. 2) take a prep course - find out what the graders are looking for.

Yeah, I write a LOT of essays, so I suppose it is a matter of what the graders are looking for. I’m seeing a tutor for the June ACT, so hopefully my scores will improve.

I went from an 8 to 11 writing. What I mainly remember is that I made my essay longer-I was writing the whole time- and I had 3 separate ideas in 3 separate paragraphs plus a lead in and closing paragraph. Leave like 2 blank lines at the beginning and try to come up with a clever opening as you’re writing. And always present the opposing viewpoint but rebuke it
