When did Bernie Madoff join the forums?

lol this is hilarious

but I can see where Leaira is coming from, they think that there is a social evil and that they should do their part to combat it. I personally wouldn’t do it their way, but hey XD

and yeah I’m sure there is a homelessman somewhere who went to Harvard, and I know that there are many billionaires out there who never even set foot in college, so judging someone based on their level of education is quite pathetic.

My university hardly cares at all about underage drinking/ drug use.

Sure, don’t hold up weed or cocaine to a campus police officer’s face — but if you go running up to an officer about “golly, there’s underage drinking going on here!” – He’d probably just laugh in your face.

A noise complaint they may handle, but they are annoyed at the caller. Noise complaints are supposed to be handled internally.

"You’re rich from trading on the stock market?

Which stock market?"

If she’s smart, the international stock market. Maybe she trades valuable commodities as well? Foreign currencies, anybody? Then again, I’ve never bought a stock in my life…

…But I did use my mom’s tax return to buy gold!

“if I ever met her in real life the thing I’d be most worried about is pronouncing her name”

lol, I second that

RP, where did you buy gold from?

All this curiosity got me doing some research and i think i may have found this person. IF this is truly her, she may be telling the truth. Her story with being from Michigan and the unique name match up.

[3StocksOnFire.com [Interview with Leaira]](http://www.3stocksonfire.com/interviews/04_interview_with_Leaira.php)

My school (UNC) really doesn’t care about drinking, provided that you don’t get caught by the police for it. The campus police are really laid back, and the city police are pretty cool too, but we have these tools known as the ALE whose main job is to bust underage drinking. They are typically young and dress like frat guys, and can get you pretty much anywhere. One of my friends was waiting for a bus to take him back from a party, and the ALE came up and breathalyzed him on spot, giving him a drinking ticket. I’ve gotten 2 drinking tickets from the ALE, but both occurred off-campus (before I was even a student) and the university didn’t really care about them.

DUIs are another story-I believe the university just enacted a policy this past year that would suspend students for at least a semester following any DUI arrest in Chapel Hill. The first week that the policy went into effect, they had to boot three students.

Yep, that’s me! I forgot about that interview! It was 3 years ago. I sure have learned a lot about trading since then! Yes, my name is Leaira Powell, and my first name rhymes with “sierra” for those wondering how to pronounce it.

I found this college forum just by accident, and decided to write stuff on it. So I guess that does make me a ■■■■■ in a way. LOL :)

I have been trading only our own stock market… never traded any futures, commodities, or international stuff. You can trade it in both directions. Most people think it has to go up in order to make money. Not true! It depends on the particular strategy you use. Some of them will make you money when a stock goes down, and you’ll lose money when it goes up.

■■■■■ that’s precious.

Learia:
Aren’t u the same one who said girls are slobs unless their wearing pantyhose and a skirt?

Yes, something like that. I am very conservative when it comes to dress and appearance. I said that I think a girl should wear nylons IF she wears a skirt or dress. I never said it the way you put it. Please don’t twist my words.

I disagree; dropping out of college when you have the chance to go is a very shameful thing. This is possibly where my beef with business majors comes in: being rich is not a virtue, it contributes to shallow materialism. The fact that leaira cares so little about her education only serves to reinforce my views on this matter; Some people have no chance to go to college, and yet she chooses a life of materialism over true thought.
And calling the cops on parties? Honestly. I never party myself, but to harm others when they have not harmed you? You must have some sort of authority complex.

What? How? I’m baffled.

Ummmm way to stereotype all of us as money hungry, materialistic idiots…

I think you’re coming off as an intellectual elitist here; I understand you value higher education, but can’t you understand that others have different goals as you? People have different passions and drives; some don’t finish HS, others get multiple PhDs. You speak as though pursuit of money is a terrible thing, but it’s a reality - people need to provide for themselves and perhaps a family one day. Most Business majors I know are practical people who want a corporate career, whether it’s Advertising, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, whatever, basically a life where they’re providing a useful service to people willing to pay for it, that’s all business is. Why look down on someone for having different goals or perspectives? How would you feel if a PhD, MD, or JD called you shameful? Not everyone wants advanced education, most people need to pay the bills so they can enjoy their lives with their family and friends, and have fun.

Sorry if I offended you personally, I have nothing against you for studying business. Certainly not everyone is like this, and I do know some people who genuinely do like business, and that is fine. However I also encounter many who go into the major because they want college to be as easy as possible. College should be thought provoking (no conservative of liberal bias here), people should be taught to open their minds, make bigger sacrifices for others than themselves and to be a little more humble after the experience, for nature ultimately decides our fate, not others opinions of us.

Molly: not persuit of reasonable amounts of money, but persuit of excess. Certainly everyone needs to provide for their families, however, no one arguably NEEDS their own house at 20, especially when others are suffering from the financial crisis.
In regards to elitism, I am sorry I came off this way. I actually know two people who did not complete college, yet they are the two best people I know, they are always there and very genuine. I also know grad students who are despicable: they are condenscening and pretentious and not open minded at all. But overall, people are just people, some are greedy, others kind; however, life experience does change people, probably the reason why the two best people I know are also the ones who have had the hardest lives. Understanding people who have less, Not admiring those who have more; that is a good goal.

NYU could care less ;)

Does anyone know how UC Berkeley handles the drug/booze scene?

Wow, I dont even know how to respond to this other than saying that it’s completely absurd…

Really, absurd to say that college should open your mind even at the expense of earning potential?
