How much does your HS help...

Literally…

Is their a slight edge an admission process if you go to a very well-known (In terms of academics) public HS

I go to Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland.

never heard of it, i doubt it. id say if u went to like a top private school and did well then that helps, otherwise i doubt it really means much…on the other hand if you went to a school with 25 people that may look bad also.

Even if you go to a top school you still need to finish in the top 1-5% to stand out. If you go to a bad school you’ll need to get rank 1 or 2 to stand out.

imo it really doesn’t matter.

At one point thats what I heard that coming from a catholic or prep school will be taken more serious than other schools but it doesn’t seem fair because some students didn’t have a choice in the school they are.

they want ‘diversity’ too though, so if a college saw a great applicant from a lesser known school, they might take that one over, say exeter, bc they want to diversify the student body. unless, of course, it’s the ivy league, in which case we all know who they’d choose.

Ivy Leagues are the ones who want diversity these days…

it helps 3.141592…

Yes it helps, let’s say you go to Exeter and was the valedictorian…case closed…it’s different than being valed. at some other school.

the ivy league says they care about diversity bc it is a big selling point for students. but dont lie to yourself. the preppy/rich kid stereotypes are true. they want money, and diversity is simply an added bonus.

Does it say anything if your graduating class is 900-1,000 people?

it will list your rank say #4/960. the denominator will be the number of people in your class. if your school does not rank, the counselor should still put down the amt. of people.

I know for my high school, which many consider to be the best public in the nation, the 250/450 person got into UVa… so yeah, it does help. However, the top, some schools do have quotas and it does appear. Like we found out that Yale had a pretty strict quota from my school and it hurt some applicants. However, we found out Princeton had no quota and sent like 20 kids.
