I was accepted to CAS with $46,586.00 in financial aid for the 2011-2012 school year. This is the breakdown, for the school year.

CAS Scholarship - $25,000
CAS Eckhouse Scholarship - $6,000
TAP - $500
Total free money - $31,500

Federal Work Study - $3000
Federal Perkins Loans - $2400
Stafford Loan - $3500
Unsubsidized Loan - $2000
Federal Plus Loan - $4,186
Total loan money - $15,186

Total tuition cost: $40,000

I am not planning on taking any loans. Thus, I would be paying $8500.

NYU’s it notorious for giving horrible financial aid. When I saw my package, I was stunned. Did anyone else get such a general package? My stats aren’t extraordinary either… I have a 2300 composite SAT and am ranked second in the school.

CAS Scholarship 30,000.00
Federal Work Study 3,000.00
Federal Perkins Loan 2,400.00
Stafford Loan 1 3,500.00
Unsubsidized Loan 1 2,000.00
Federal PLUS Loan 1 18,494.00
Aid Year Totals 59,394.00

So that’s a little more than the total cost of attendance, which is really nice. However, my parents definitely can’t afford that Federal PLUS loan. So I’m not sure that I can afford NYU, even with the nice package they gave me…

Tisch Scholarship 8,000.00
Federal Work Study 3,000.00
Federal Perkins Loan 2,400.00
Stafford Loan 1 3,500.00
Unsubsidized Loan 1 2,000.00
Federal PLUS Loan 1 44,562.00

From what I read, these scholarships are kept from year to year unless your GPA falls under a 3.0, approximately. Does anyone know what the “CAS Eckhouse” scholarship is?

I got 28k in free money, including LSP scholarship, nyu grant, pell grant, and other federal grants. I got about 60k total including loans. I got a pretty massive federal PLUS loan. How the heck am I going to pay this off?! I’ll be in like $130k debt coming out of undergrad. This makes me so sad, nyu is my first choice but I don’t think the loans make nyu a feasible choice

I don’t know what the CAS Eckhouse scholarship is but congratulations BlueRedandGray. I am glad there are still some students who can go to NYU without massive debt. Like Zoidberg93, however, I am sad because so many of you, including my son, got into their dream school and can’t figure out how to go there.

A parent taking out a 40,000 Plus loan to close the gap means payments of 1400 a month for the next ten years. :(

I got $11,000 something in scholarships, $3,000 work-study, and the rest in loans. Is it smart to go to NYU? I feel like it would be worth the ~$45,000 a year, but I’m not sure which is why I haven’t sent in my SIR to any school yet.
Oh and my family is not in the best of financial situations, but… we can make things work, hopefully.

i don’t know why everyone complains about nyu’s financial package when I received more from them than any school like bu. I got a lewis something scholarship 20,000 for cas. for all four years and a bit more from grants and cas scholarship totaling 27,630. I mean, it’s not bad compared to what other schools offered me. plus, I am not paying 15k to dorm when i live near the city. therefore, my parents and I have to pay about 19k, which is ok for my family’s income. doesn’t mean I won’t try out for more scholarships next year though.

in the end, if you are smart and worked hard for four years, nyu will give you a really good financial package especially because they WANT you to go to their school. those with low financial offers, I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I think that’s why some people get very generous offers while others do not.

Does the amount of your scholarship depend on what school you get into? Like are there some (NYU)schools that tend to give out more money than others? Also, what is the biggest scholarship they give out…is there a cap on it, or is it just whatever they feel necessary?
