How much for a wedding gift?

I am from the Midwest but live on the East Coast. I think my midwest heritage influences my gift giving because the MidwestParent figures are almost identical to what we would give as well.

“D1 is planning a fall 2011 wedding, and we should make the first deposit in a few weeks. Another brave new world.”

You are going to have a delightful year…congratulations and keep a diary for the next year so you can share with us all the happiness. Enjoy!

frazzled1,
Have you been on here long enough to remember the thread for molliebatmit’s wedding? That was a fun one. I would especially love to follow along with your experiences!

Thanks, Greenery! I’ve been thinking of trying to get a wedding planning/kibitzing thread going but was waiting for d to set the date. I think it will be a delightful year, as you say - although those wedding shows on TV are starting to scare me. :)

And yes, I remember mollieb’s wedding thread well, 2VU0609! It’s here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/245508-latest-wedding-updates.html</a>; and the etiquette one, which was also very helpful, is here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/224129-wedding-etiquette.html</a></p>

Lots of great input from everyone. And her wedding was lovely! It was so nice of her to include us in the process.

I live in the EAst, but also agree that Midwest Mom’s figures follow mine pretty much exactly for graduate; we might be a little higher for weddings, but not much.

Thank you pizzagirl and terriwt. I’ve been away for a few days so didn’t see any posts; I appreciate the support. I made the offer several months ago. Now that we are getting closer, the realities of the event and the logistics (I work full time) are becoming clear. It will be very nice (I will make sure of that!) and I’ll catch up on sleep later. :)

We were just in a similar situation to the OP. We travelled to my cousin’s daughter’s wedding. For 3 of us, the airfare was over $1000, and we stayed in the least expensive hotel we could find - and it was still $170/night. Plus we had to rent a car. The groom’s parents hosted a backyard garden party Thursday evening, there was a cocktail party after the rehearsal on Friday evening, then the formal wedding on Saturday evening, and a casual brunch on Sunday morning.

We bought an appliance from their online registry, it was supposed to be $149 but it was on sale for $99. We had it mailed directly to the bride, gift-wrapped, so that we wouldn’t have to bring a gift on the plane.

I was worried that it wasn’t “enough” but frankly it cost us a lot of money to attend, and I will have 2 kids in college next year.
