How much higher do you usually score on the SAT after a summer?

Let’s explore my general upward trend in SAT scores.

2009 PSAT (Sophomore)
CR: 50
Math: 42
Writing: 46
Projected Score: 1380

2010 PSAT (Junior)
CR: 64
Math: 50
Writing: 58
Projected Score: 1720

2011 May SAT
CR: 690
Math: 610
Writing: 690 (essay:9; multiple choice:68)
Score: 1990

Not a great score, but I can work with it.

Does this happen to other people? I am wanting to go to some pretty competitive schools (especially William and Mary) and my scores are in the ranges (except my math needs to come up), but my GPA is god-awful. I’ve really put in the effort in my schoolwork junior year, however (straight A’s in hardest classes) and my scores are results of this. However, I know that to compensate for my low GPA I really need 2200+, do you think that I can do that?

Any comment?

that also happened to me!

I’ve posted my results in another thread but I’ll post it again
2009 psat 159 (53 cr, 57 M, 49 W)
2010 PSAT after basically only studying during summer 205 (67 CR, 69M, 69W)
2011 SAT May 2210 (650 CR, 760 M, 800W w/11 Essay and 76MC)
I went up a significant amount by just studying hard and doing practice tests. I’ll definitely be working on CR this summer so I can hopefully get in the 2300 range, and I think if you just keep on studying, you’ll get to 2200. By the way, what is your GPA just so we can get an idea of what score you need to hit in order to have great success in getting in?

Due to your apparent dedication to improving yourself and your performance (as evidenced by you being on this forum), and the nature of your upward trend, it is doubtlessly possible. I too aim to improve my performance over the summer months, and wish you well. Owing to the 200+ point disparity between each of your test sessions, your next SAT score could very well be above 2200. If math is your vulnerability (it is mine as well), purchase the official blue book and pillage the practice tests, especially the math portions. Once the detailed score analysis from your recent session is available, pour over the questions that you missed or omitted until you are positive that you will never make such mistakes again.
By the way, I recently visited William and Mary over spring break, and the campus was magnificent. Good luck, especially if you are outside of Virginia.

I’m going to get my GPA and class rank right after the school year, but I do know that it is not very good (<3.5?). But this year (Junior) I have made all A’s in the hardest classes that my school offers, most of which aren’t that hard simply because my school is small. But at the beginning of the year I fully committed myself to getting in.

Thanks, I have an interview in July at W&M and I live in SW Virginia.

Wait, how could your college GPA be less than 3.5 if you got all A’s this year. Isn’t the college GPA just your sophomore and junior year combined? Anyways, I’m sure that if you study hard this summer and get a few good recommendations and score well on your next SAT, you will be able to get in to some of the schools that you want. On collegeboard, it says that the mid 50% of freshman admitted to the College of William and Mary had an SAT score of between 1860-2160 so if you pull off a great score, it may compensate for your GPA.
