How much is it to go to a movie near you?

Classof2015 thanks for the reminder of the Malick film. I will go see that but it is playing at few theatres. A shame considering the lack of good films. I haven’t been for a while but many shows are about $10. which makes Netflix/hulu that much more attractive.especially since it is relatively easy to find television that I want to see but much more difficult to find something in a theatre.

It’s about $5 at the closest theater. There are two other theaters in the area that are more like $6-$8. At that closest theater, it’s only $4 for an afternoon show and sometimes it goes down as low as $3. Just sort of depends on how the prices are fluctuating, they all raise and lower their prices to compete with each other. The one is always really cheap.

I know we’re lucky. This is a big part of why I refused to relocate. :P

5.00 Mon - Thurs and 10.00 Fri, Sat and Sun

Okay, I just could not believe what my said that he spent on a movie. I just checked for myself (son is not home). In fact, it shows that the ticket price $12, not $16. I assume that he must have included a candy bar or a drink in that total cost! Now I feel better! $16 is just over the top for me. I would not spend $12 either unless it is THE movie of the decade for me! He can spend his money any way he wants to spend it.
Sorry for the misinformation in my initial post!

Okay, there was a miscommunication. The movie was in 3D, which explains the cost of the ticket…it was $16 for that. Sorry for all that confusion.

You’ll be pleased to know that to go and see a movie at Leicester Square Odeon in London (where the recent Harry Potter Premier was shown) costs up to £21.60! I think that is about $35US. However, it is like a real theatre inside with a choice of seating levels so there are cheaper seats for £12 (still $20US though).

Splashmom: I think we go to the same theater  I hadn’t been to the movies in years until a few weeks ago. $21 for DH & I…and then they wanted $13.50 for a popcorn & soda. Um, no. One good thing that the theater does is sell a popcorn bucket that is good for a year (I think the initial outlay is around $8-$10) and every time you go back, it’s $2.50 for a refill.

Whoa-I had no idea! This thread is a real eye-opener. It’s probably been 15 years since I’ve been to a movie theatre. Guess it will be another 15…I don’t enjoy theatre movies because the volume level is much too loud for me.

I think, depending on if its a matinee or evening, and if we use senior citizen or military discount, its between $7-9.50 per person. Of course there’s a dollar theater right nearby too, with movies that arent all that old. We love that place!

Went last night at 7:00 p.m. in sticks in central Florida to see Bad Teacher: $3.00 for admission including taxes; 3-D price was $7.00.

^^ Dang.

The last time DH and I were in a theater was for Avatar, so that would have been around January 2010? I don’t break down prices when we go to the movies, or we’d never go at all. I just stick $40 in my pocket and tell myself that’s not a bad price for an evening’s entertainment.
