<p>I am not talking about the first showing of the day bargain rate, but just the average ticket price.</p>
<p>I admit that I have not been to a movie theatre in years. My son saw two movies in a threatre this summer. I asked him how much it costs. I was shocked that he paid $16 for the ticket! This is at an old theatre (not one recently renovated) in a suburban location.</p>
<p>16!?? Was that for both movies? Our regular ticket price is $9.75, but jumps to $13. 75 when it’s 3D. We rarely go to movies anymore.</p>
<p>No, this one movie!!! No, it was not a 3 D movie either.</p>
<p>In Indiana it’s about $9.50 per movie, but when we were in Detroit a year ago we went to a movie and were shocked that it was $4.50 per ticket Sunday - Thursday, all day! And this was one of those new, huge, nice movie complexes.</p>
<p>At our local movie theater, the regular adult admission is $10.50. If you want to see a 3D movie, $14.50. We have seen two movies in the past couple of weeks … both free because my husband had signed up on some site to be alerted to free movie passes. Except for the free movie passes, we just don’t really go to the movies anymore. Two tickets, one popcorn to share and two cokes would cost us $35! That is absolutely ridiculous. While waiting in line for our free movie (‘30 Minutes or Less’) night before last, I was looking at the refreshments price board. I was shocked to see that bottles of water were $3 for small and $5 for large. A small coke is $3.55, a large almost $5! A box of candy is $3.85. I will admit to being one of those people who carries a large purse to the movies so I can bring in a $0.99 20-oz drink and some M&Ms or a candy bar. We do usually buy a popcorn to share.</p>
<p>$13 per ticket. I love movies, and I love watching them in a theatre, but now we pick and choose which ones would be just as enjoyable on the small screen (laptop or DVD player). We saw Tree of Life – that’s definitely a “have to see it in the theatre” kind of movie. But for a small scaled independent movie – I’ll wait til Netflix has it.</p>
<p>We haven’t been to a movie theater in so long, I had to look up the prices. Here the prices for adults are $9.50 for a regular ticket and $13.50 for a 3D movie ticket. For two of us to see a movie, each have a Coke and share a large popcorn would cost over $30. No way. </p>
<p>When I was a kid, and even into my 20s, going to a movie once a week was typical. After we had our first child, we started buying videos. These days, we use RedBox or Amazon VoD. I admit to being spoiled, since we have a nice media room in our basement with a large screen and reclining chairs. It’s so nice to not have to put up with other viewers talking, texting, kicking seat backs, etc. I’d rather spend that $30 - 35 at the grocery store to provide a meal for friends we invite to watch a movie here.</p>
<p>At the local AMC (Chicago suburbs), we went to the regular Harry Potter and I was $10 and my husband (who is 60) got the senior rate of $6. Great deal!</p>
<p>We have switched to Netflix.</p>
<p>There was a time that we went to the movies at least once a week. I do not mind paying the $9.50 to $16.00 theaters want as long as it’s a good film. The operative word is GOOD.
The lack of good product is depressing. We have not been to the movies for some time.</p>
<p>I think it’s about $11-13. I too have not been to a movie theather lately. The last time we saw inception on an IMAX theater and my husband agreed with me that they had to pay us to watch anything like that again. It was loud and not pleasant.</p>

<p>Usually we go to a nearby cinema. All shows before 6 p.m. cost only $4.00. Really reasonable, imo.</p>
<p>I’ve just resumed going to evening showtimes after years of weekend matinees. Boy, the price for the nighttime show was a punch in the kisser!!! I had no desire to see the 3D version but I didn’t want to wait for a later showtime, so I coughed up the cash. 14 freaking bucks!!!</p>
<p>I guess the margins on popcorn and Pespi have gotten smaller.</p>
<p>Here in suburban NJ regular showings are $10.50 and 3-D movies are $13.50. $16 seems very high.</p>
<p>In our area of NC, it’s $10 for an evening showing, $7.50 for afternoon.<br>
Saturday a.m. showings are $5. One local theater has been doing $5 showings all day on Tuesdays.</p>

<p>Detroit metro area - $4.50 every day before 6:00, after that, about $8. Pretty cheap, especially if you don’t eat</p>
<p>Here in Maine we have a local, older movie theater that has an amazing choice of movies for just $1 on Tuesdays! Rest of the week it’s $3.50.
Popcorn/soda prices are also pretty reasonable too.
Just saw Super 8, and they are also showing Bridesmaids, Larry Crowne, Bad Teacher and Cars 2 to name but a few.</p>
<p>Wisconsin city. Just saw the final Harry Potter movie. Matinee adult- $7.50, 3D $10.50. No reason to see it in 3D. Evening $9.50 regular. Bought my Cheerios last winter so son and I saw the H P movie for free then (some boxes had a free movie ticket offer).</p>
<p>We’ve had Netflix and caught up on the movies we want to see- DVDs and streaming- so we’re even dropping that now- rates going up again. Will restart it in a few months again when we have a backlog of movies to watch.</p>
<p>S2 went to the movies in suburban Wash DC & spent $15.50. It would have to be one helluva movie to get me to spend that much. Actually, I don’t think any movie would be good enough to get me to spend that much.</p>
