How much is that degree going to cost?

As I come to terms with the financial aid packages I’ve received and make my final decisions, I often wonder how much is too much. My parents are somewhat well off but never went to college so aren’t quite sure how valuable that degree is. Either way, they are willing to let me take the path I choose, but I was wondering if my situation is outside the norm.

So if you want to participate, please answer these questions:

**1. How much debt (loans) will you have when you graduate?

Are you going to graduate/professional school?

How much (range) do you think you’ll be making upon graduation?**

For me,

65k

law

55k - 60k, 90k - 130k after law

1) undergrad: 13000
2) med
3) after grad: starts 35ish and then 120ish

0 because I have scholarships, so as long as I keep them I won’t have any undergrad debt

yes, but I’m not sure what yet. probably grad for masters/PhD

I’ll probably be working for a year or two to save up some money for grad school before I go, but there aren’t alot of jobs for BA Anthropology so probably just doing field work like excavation and stuff which doesn’t pay very well. After Masters, like 50,000+ a year if I get a job with a corporation or top organization.

Just out of curiosity brand 182, what are you majoring in that you think that you’ll be starting out at 65k after a bachelors degree?

Probably 0.

MBA or MBA/JD

Uh depends on where I work…I guess, but somewhere in the $130k range after undergrad, and about $300k after grad, in today’s real dollars.

undergrad: 30 to 40 thousand maybe less though.

1.) $17125
2.) MBA
3.) Don’t know, places I’ve been looking start about $35-40K

tx - 65k will be debt, expecting around 55k for starting salary. Majoring in Philosophy/Math.

undergraduate: 4k
MBA: 20k
Work: -120k

yes very gulliable

1.) I hope 0
2.) MBA
3.) 50k+

1) 30k
2) MBA (maybe JD)
3) 35k-50k upon Bachelors

0

MD/PhD or just one of those… maybe an MBA

~25,000 if I make MD/PhD or PhD, 0-very little if MD, don’t know if MBA.

After I get my professional/graduate degree… I honestly don’t know. The range can be huge given the fact that I don’t know which one I’ll end up with and how well I would perform.

If I went directly to work after getting my B.S. I’d probably get ~50k a year or so

undergrad and grad(5 years) about 110,000, parents said they would pay 100k.

5 year bachelors in mathematics / masters in education program

im going to teach, they start off at 40k in my hometown, anywhere from 20 - 45k depending on where i want to go

80k - 90k

Not currently planning on it

No idea. I’m majoring in journalism, and don’t really know what I want to do with it yet.

If I didn’t scholarships and my grandfather didn’t surprise me by offering to pay for my college, I’d be in $200,000 worth of debt for undergrad alone. My parents can’t afford to even pay for my plane fare to my college, much less anything else.

I might do a 5 year masters in politics at my college and then get a masters in something else afterwards.

Depends. I won’t start working til after my masters and the Peace Corps, so I can probably expect at least $60,000 to start with, more if I go into consulting.

20k-30k

MBA

50-60k after undergrad, 90-130 after MBA

Methinks many of your salary estimates are a tad high…

I agree; we’ll be heading into the work force with little or no experience. Personally, I think we’ll make somewhere between $20-$30k/year in the beginning.

$0

Grad school eventually, but I’ll probably work a year or two between college and grad school, to gain experience in my field.

$20-$30k to start, and more later. I’m going into the international health field, so I’ll never be a millionaire.

1) ~$12k
2) Possibly; if so, <$5k
3) $30-40k to start, maybe as high as $80k after 10+ years

Speak for yourselves about having little to no work experience. Personally I will graduate with 3 summers of internship experience and at least a semester of internship experience abroad. While that’s not much, coupled with a Masters degree and Peace Corps experience, it’s enough to make a salary difference.
