How Much Is Your Child's Tuition Going Up?

I was pleasantly surprised – a 3.9% increase for the coming year and at a public university. I was expecting much worse.

None. It’s fixed for all 4 years.

^Yes, that’s becoming an increasingly popular option offered by some schools. I know that the University of Kansas is offering a four year fixed tuition compact for undergraduates. I’m sure there are many others.

My D’s went up a minimal amount. I am more worried about cuts to programs than the tuition increase. She is in performing arts and those budgets are always vulnerable.

5.6% not thrilled about it, but I suppose it could have been worse.

Fingers crossed here that the final 2 years aren’t too bad…

my son’s went up about 2K. His scholarship amount was increased by 2K (without me asking!) so I am THRILLED.

Kansas public schools are all going up … although some schools have a guaranteed rate for four years - so it won’t hit them.

Tuition is fixed, but housing is going up so much that overall we’ll be paying 5% more this year than we paid last year.

Florida public U’s have been such a good value-- it is hard to complain, but tuition is going up 15%. The biggest problem is that Bright Futures only covers base tuition now and not this year’s increase. Florida Prepaid will cover it for those who have it.

None. Prepaid. Housing, parking, meals, books, etc. skyrocketing.

S’s tuition did not go up. D’s tuition increased 4% and now there is a mandatory fee for health care.

My tuition went up about $20/hour because I go out-of-state. The in-state students didn’t change. The Governor and the University Presidents agreed to not cut state spending IF the universities did not increase tuition and fees for the Missouri residents.

11% but the base rate is cheap so it’s not a big deal. Housing staying the same.

The bigger problem is course offerings. I suspect that classes will be packed. Scheduling for the fall was pretty tough - he has to take an 8:30 AM course (he’s not an early morning person) two days a week. I don’t think that he will be able to finish in three years at this point just based on getting in required courses. 3.5 is doable and I’d be fine with four so he can take fun courses.

Zero…zip…zilch!

There is a list of tuition changes by school in this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/661782-tuition-increases-2009-2010-a.html</a> Maybe we can update that list here?

^Good idea. Here’s the most recent list from the other thread. In addition to the name of the school and the % increase, I think it would also be helpful if we posted the estimated $ gross amount of annual charges for tuition and fees (not including financial aid, and let’s leave out room and board and other charges). For public universities, it would also be helpful to list whether your child is a resident or a non-resident. My daughter is at Kansas State and a non-resident, so I’ll start:
