hi every one

first im very happy because there is website like this in internet

second i have question really want to ask from along time
but there is no one answer me

i want to study in one of these university

MIT
Harvad
CALTECH
University of Texas At Austin
Cornell University
University of Michigan
University of California, Berkeley (UCB)

i want to get master or phd not bachelor degree
but how much it hard to accept in MIT
and is there people Refused
and why they Refused

and another question

in QS WORLD University Ranking
MIT Tuition Fee is $44000 For international Student
For Graduate Program
is this tuition fee for all the year or what
is that mean if someone want to study phd and its need 5 years
he should paid $44000 every year for college (This is Crezy)
and the undergraduate program need $42000
this $42000 for all 4 Year or just one Year
Thank you very much

MIT’s acceptance rate is around 8.9 percent. Pretty damn difficult.

Even though you didn’t mention what field you’re interested in, all of those are top notch schools. While everything depends on the program, UT-Austin and UMich have higher general acceptance rates than the others on the list, they’re also (generally) highly selective. And yes, $44,000 is going to be a single year’s tuition, though it is usually covered for you if you’re in a STEM-field PhD program. Schools rarely pay for your tuition in a masters program.

i want to continue study in ECE Program
or EECS in MIT
in anything the acceptance rue in MIT depends or Uoftexas at Austin

thank you

You would get better answers in the graduate school forum, this forum is for undergraduates.

Yes it’s tuition for a year. Undergraduates who have financial need receive a “financial aid package” to make the costs ok for their family. That’s a lot of money to invest on an international student, that’s why your odds of getting in as an international student who needs aid at the undergraduate level are about 1:20 (at best).

As a graduate student, you won’t actually pay tuition, if you get in, they pay the tuition for you and you work for them a couple hours a week. But it’s very hard to do at all the schools you named. First you need to work on your English and become fluent so that you can receive a good score on the TOEFL.

Note that some of these schools (MIT at least) will not admit students for just the masters degree. They will offer the masters only as an add-on for undergraduate students, or en route to the PhD.

It is extremely hard. Acceptance rates for EECS at these schools are all less than 10%, many of them less than 5%. I am an ECE PhD candidate at UIUC, and the year I was admitted I was told the acceptance rate was between 2-3% overall.

The reason people are refused? Well, there are only so many openings, and at this level there is a lot of competition. You can be a very good prospect but be rejected simply for not being better. For the most part, you need an exceptional GPA and very strong research experience to get in to schools at this level, as well as a clear match to the research interests and needs of some of the professors.

These are “per year” costs, so 5 years at MIT as a grad student carries a nominal cost of $220,000 - US universities only ever show costs by the semester or by the year, as time to graduate can vary wildly between students. It should be noted that few if any grad students actually pay these costs, as they generally hold assistantships or fellowships that cover all tuition and pay a stipend as well. MIT EECS will not actually admit anyone for whom it cannot off this, so the tuition is completely irrelevant for applicants.

If you are asking this question, chances are you will not be admitted to any of these schools. You need to be able to research these schools on your own. And do academic research :)

Undergraduate is $40,000-50,000 per year (in your question).

i think i should be real and truly with my self

IIT Bombay if use pass GATE exam you could continue study on it

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich also have an exam if use pass the exam you could continue the study on it

an i thing my chance to get master from iit Bombay or ETH Zurich is better than MIT
but Which is better in ranking and everything

because every one know if someone have master from strong university he could get the PH.d from strong university too (that easy)
but if he have the master from university have low ranking this will be hard to get PH.d from university in top 10 world ranking

ah i forget ETH Zurich (studying in EE Department in English )
and the tuition fee for he university is less that 2000$ (1860$) per year :)

also IIT Bombay tuition fee is between 2000 and 4000 us dollars per years
its better than paid 40k $ per years

I really want to see what you say about IIT and ETH Zurich

Not entirely true - a PhD is almost always harder than the masters, even at the same university, and success at the masters is no guarantee of success at the PhD level.

I believe that the test is for undergraduate admissions only - I think you will have as hard a time getting into ETHZ for graduate school as you would getting into the schools originally listed. There are no shortcuts.

It will certainly be harder to get in and you will probably struggle with the sudden increase in rigor, so… yes.

The best IIT’s are decent schools but not exceptional. ETH Zurich is an excellent school overall, but I am not familiar with their EE program.

so if we forget the (Dream of MIT) and focus into IIT Bombay and ETH Zurich which one is better in EE program
ETH Zurich or IIT bombay and why
