how much high school math is needed to become an interior designer, architect or visual effects artist?

i’m going to be a senior next year and i have to descide if i want to take more graphics, art, and interior design classes or more math and science classes.

It depends what school you want to go to. Where I went (USC), you just had to pass out of or take a pre-cal class and that was it, though it’s hard to get into a competitive university in the first place without four years of math. At the other end of the spectrum, Cal-Poly SLO had high school calculus as a pre-requisite. So I’d advise you to look up a few schools you’re interested and see what their requirements are.

Carnegie Mellon requires 4 years of High School Math (up at least to Pre-Calculus) plus two SAT-II tests, respectively in Math and Science (Physics or Chemistry). Many admitted student actually also take AP Calculus in High School.

Part of the issue is what kind of school you want to go to. If you plan on going to a school and majoring in a certain design field from day one, then I would develop that passion in high school. If you are not sure what path you want to down and will apply to a liberal arts type program, than I would concentrate on the academics.
