How much of an advantage is being a special snowflake?

Hi. My mom is Turkish and my dad is Saudi Arabian. I speak English, Turkish, Arabic, and French. I am a feminist/vegan/Muslim living in Saudi Arabia. I wanted to know just how much of a difference being a “special snowflake” makes on your app and how much of it is just grades/volunteer hours. Like a percentage maybe?

Forgot to mention I was born in Texas and I have three, in the process of getting two more, citizenships.

“Special Snowflake” is normally a derogatory term for a child whose parents think their child is so very special that the rules do not apply to the snowflake.

I am aware, and am poking fun at myself:)
My mom always made me feel super unique but I’ve come to face reality recently and I realized it wasn’t that big of a boost, so I want to know /how/ small of a boost it is.

Its impossible to give an actual percentage. What I think is that it can be a big boost depending on what you do with it. If you show that you really value your multiculturalism/linguism in your ECs and essays, that will stand out to admissions. Remember, college apps is just about standing out instead of just blending in with the other applicants. What you want to do is make your application look like a human being, with personality, real passions and things that would make your file stand out among the thousands of others.

Your situation can give you a big advantage on that front but only if you use it and show how it shaped you as an interesting person. If you just state that you’re multicultural, you won’t get anywhere. If you really take the time to expand on it though, then it can help you a lot.

Thank you merlion!
