How much of the applicant pool do CCers make up?

I’ve been wondering this for a while. For Ivies, what portion of the applicant pool do you think CCers constitute?

I’m curious because, with some of the amazing stats I see around here, it might be helpful for nervous applicants to know that the majority of people who apply to these competitive schools do not have such crazy resumes. Then again, it could make things worse if it turns out that a vast majority of applicants are CCers.

At Ivies, a tiny part of the overall applicant pool…but 5-10% of the pool of accepted applicants.

That is comforting, Choklitrain. :)

Wait…Choklit:

Harvard has about 2000 accepted candidates. Are 100 to 200 of them from CC? I really don’t think so…

^could be possible :)

i believe that 100 of them have at least visited the CC forums

Wow…Is there any way to verify this?

Question is whether the people who post are a good indicator of the average of those that visit the site. I’d think the posters would probably be slightly above average at the least.

no. unless you want to go to every ivy and take a survey of the students.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/483555-official-harvard-2012-decisions-thread.html

well there are at least 100 people in this threading claiming harvard acceptances…and it’s likely that others accepted at harvard visit CC but didn’t post on that thread.

if only to comfort myself, i’d say CC applicants do not make up the “average” applicant even among the ivy applicant pools. take a cursory look through all the major forums. one indicator: excellent SAT scores (to be seen all around CC). people whine about 2300+ scores and regularly ask how to improve from high 2200-ish scores (myself included). CC also has at least a couple of 2400s hanging around, and we all know just how rare those are.

i wouldn’t be surprised if ChoklitRain is right about CCers making up 5-10% of acceptance pools in the ivies. note also that he doesn’t really explicitly say harvard. personally, i’ve noticed that HYPMS people don’t really appear by the truckload on CC as applicants for the “lower” (i hate that term though) ivies or the UCs do. i’m pretty sure that ChoklitRain’s guess of 5-10% is applicable for schools like columbia, cornell and so on.

CCers have one defining characteristic that somewhat unites us. we’re all equally anxious about what we may deem to be the most important game (if i may call it so) we will play in our lifes - the admissions game. from chance threads to sat prep threads to ap selfstudy threads, each person you find there is curious if they have the IT that will carry them to the acceptance pile. and subconsciously, over the many hours each of us spends at CC, most of us will realize that we do have something brought us onto these forums - the desire to pursue out educations at the best school we can hope to get into. in a lot of cases, that foresight translates to success in the admissions game.

so regardless of what hope the figure you’re looking for can give you, i’m pretty certain that one day when you attend orientation at a college of your choice, you’ll be thanking CC for helping you on the way there.
