Just out of curiosity.
One might say that the critical thinking skills and writing skills I learned en route to my liberal arts degree at Williams serve me well every day of my life in my career. The research skills often come in handy as well. In terms of specific content I learned, little of it is directly useful-- but frankly, I consider my liberal arts experience to have been more meaningful and transformative than my graduate degrees which were pre-and-mid-professional. I highly recommend a liberal arts experience. There’s nothing like it. It’s a magical time devoted to the life of the mind.
I graduated with a political science degree. I learned nothing directly applicable to any job I am interested in, but I did learn how to speed-read (read to understand, but quickly), how to write effectively (it’s amazing how many people in the business world don’t know the difference between “;” and “,”), and how to process complicated strings of logic in such a way that I can explain it both simply and completely. I also learned how to use Excel, which has proven useful beyond anything I could have imagined.
