How much preparation will I need

I have a SAT math score of 690, how much preparation will I need to get it up to 710- 730

What’s your score range?

660-720

There’s a normal amount of variation from test to test, so you might very well take it again and score that high. Depends on how you’re feeling that day, how hard the test is to you, etc. I’d suggest using the blue book and getting up there.

so, to a large degree, is it random chance?

I think you should work over the summer for it, but yeah there is randomness to the tests. You still get rewarded for good preparation but the College Board ran a study and found that scores varied by up to 40 points in each section. Just by taking the test again you might get a higher score (or a lower score, depending on where your skill level is).

What I’ve been doing so far is working through the harder SAT style math questions for about two hours four days a week - would you say this is a reasonable way of attaining my goal? ( and I occasionally take the practice tests but not so often so that I can save them)

and I say harder questions because I am usually able to finish the first 2/3 of the tests in a pretty short amount of time

Yeah at your level (700+) you need to be working on the harder questions. The key is to really understand your mistakes and why you’re making them. Keep a notebook of your mistakes so you can review them.

Dr. Chung’s lol

what you’re doing should help you pull your score up. Good luck with that!

I used to get average 700 for math section, but took an sat math test (3 sections) 2 days a week and because of this, I ended up getting an 800!
