I scored a 31 on the past ACT with no prep–34E,33M,31R,25S. I am signed up for the oct 25th exam and was wondering what to exactly do to study? My english and math are pretty good, so I’m not going to study much, if at all, for them. However, I would like the most efficient method to study for reading and science --more so the latter than the former.

I have the Barron’s book… will this be enough to bring my reading and science scores up to my other ones? I am aiming for a 33-34 atleast. My math should go up this time, but I really need the science to go up a lot, and the reading to go up atleast 1-2 points. What’s the best way to start?

Personally, I find the Barron’s tests to be harder than the actual ACT, so keep that in mind when you take practice tests. Also, see if you can figure out what about the science test gives you trouble - your reading score is good, so I’m assuming that you haven’t had problems reading the science material. Could it be that you lack understanding of some of the tricky scientific terms? If so, I would review some basics of physics or biology, which can easily be done with a Google search or two. If you’re having trouble interpreting the graphical data/stats/etc, practice those things specifically. If you can raise your science score, I think your overall score will go up significantly. Also, and it sounds cliche, but reading a lot – newspaper articles, books, etc. – of more difficult material can help a lot with the reading test.
