I attend UMD, College Park and decided to take a literature class at my local community college this summer just to get the requirement out of the way (I’m an engineering major). I figured since I’m taking it at community college it wouldn’t be difficult and I would get an A, however the professor I got apparently is a notoriously harsh grader and I pretty much receive a B+ on every paper, which is making me worried that I won’t get an A in the class. Now since I’m taking the class at a different institution other than UMD the grade won’t go into my GPA, but the grade will still show up on my transcript and it will be noted that it is from a community college. What I’m wondering is does this look bad, being that it is from a community college which most people think is easier? Like is this something I should be worried about or is not that big of a deal? Some of my friends say as long as it doesn’t effect GPA it’s not a big deal while other’s tell me that it definitely doesn’t look good to get anything less than an A at a CC? Thanks for any opinions or advice I really appreciate it!

I’d say it depends on the community college, colleges know some community colleges are harder than others, just like some high schools are harder than others. It also depends on the class level, ect. Plus, I’m assuming you aren’t transferring from Community College, so UMD will still have your high school record to fall on. Overall (and I may be biased as my mom was a professor at UMD) most of the staff are understanding and knowledgeable about where students are coming from.
