How much time do MIT students have to actually explore Boston?

Some of my friends who are already in college rave about what a great college town Boston is… but it also sounds like MIT students work INCREDIBLY hard… between studying and partaking of all of the awesome activities available on MIT’s campus, is there any time left to just explore the city?

Wow, I’m making time. My what do you do in your free time essay was about exploring NYC. I need to live up to it now in Boston.

Definitely – my friends and I went into Boston most weekends at least once, and almost every night during the summer. And of course a large percentage of MIT students actually live in Boston.

The average MIT workload is 48 units, which is supposed to translate to 48 hours of class-related activity per week. 50 hours a week is a substantial amount of time, but there are still plenty more hours than that in the week.

People find time. How much time depends on the person. I certainly spent a lot more time exploring Cambridge than I did Boston, just because of convenience, but I wasn’t totally ignorant of Boston - I had walked to the North End a few times, been to the State Capitol building, the Fenway, Boston Common, Quincy Market, etc.
