How much trouble am I in... AHH!!

<p>Hi</p>

<p>I sent in my ED application and supplement to one university, then an EA application to another university.</p>

<p>The issue I am having is that I (very stupidly) forgot about the word limit for the EA application on the personal narrative.</p>

<p>The first ED application university requested a maximum of 2 pages for the personal narrative, mine JUST fit onto 2 full pages. It turned out to be 707 words. That part is OK</p>

<p>However, while submitting the same common application to the second university, I forgot that they asked for a MAXIMUM of 500 words… I feel incredibly stupid and upset at how I might have just screwed myself out of a pretty good application.</p>

<p>The essay itself was very well written, very personal, very powerful and goes by quickly… does anyone know if the adcoms will simply throw out my application or essay when they see it? (the second university)</p>

<p>AHH I feel so stupid… they’re going to think “oh, he can’t follow directions”</p>

<p>Should I call the second university and say that I attached the wrong draft and ask if I can send in a smaller essay (one that is 500 words… I’d have to butcher the one I have now), or should I just wait for the application decisions?</p>

<p>Don’t bother them. If it is worth reading, they will continue reading it. If not they will stop reading it. You have to remember for 90 percent of us, the essay will not make or break the decision. For 5 percent it will make the decision, for the other 5 percent, something explicitly bad about your qualities shine through your essay and is the basis for rejection.</p>

<p>Um… I thought you can’t apply anywhere else once you’ve done ED somewhere?</p>

<p>Of course you can still apply to other schools after you’ve applied ED to another. If you apply ED to School A, you can’t apply ED to School B - but you can apply EA, a non-binding agreement, to School B. There would be only one binding agreement you’d have applied to, so there’s no issue. The only restrictions would be if that EA school has a restrictive or “single-choice” policy.</p>
