I am in community college and still have another 1-2 years before I transfer. I haven’t been in extracurricular activities because my community college does not offer very many or any that are very interesting. I wish there was a Sierra Club at my community college but I have not been able to find anyone interested. I know GPA should be my focus before I transfer but i want to be able to impress four year schools when I transfer if necessary. Am I in jeapordy of not being able to get in to a four year school if I am not involved in anything? I applied to the student leadership academy but don’t know if I will be accepted.
Not necessarily. Your GPA is going to hold most of the weight. At my first university, I was involved in two clubs and I didn’t hold a leadership position in either. One of them was a community service club and I logged in a good amount of hours, so that might have helped. But I definitely wasn’t the most involved person, and I still got accepted. The point is, they want to see something.
But if you get rejected as a transfer, it won’t be because of ECs.
Sierra Club isn’t really a college organization— but you can often get involved with them if you Google it for your area. Colleges like to see something — but it doesn’t have to be college related. You could volunteer someplace or participate in a sports team elsewhere in your community or something like that if you don’t find something you like on your campus.
GPA should be your frist priority.
Well it seems most colleges do have some organization or club relating to the environment or science.
I currently have a 2.85 GPA because it dropped last semester because of the Cs I got in social science courses during the rough semester I had because of my grandmas passing. I hope it to get it back up to atleast a 3.0 before I transfer.
