Honestly, I believe that your worries are perfectly legitimate. Just remember that no matter how much of a blemish a B+ may seem on your record, it isn’t just about grades. I don’t think that it will affect you that much, especially if you go on and take AP Chem despite the level of difficulty of Honors Chem…that seems like the best challenge for a good student to take on to me.

Getting a “B” doesn’t affect your chance of getting into an Ivy. Trust me, there have been quite a number of people accepted to Ivies with a few Bs. You also need to keep in mind that there’s also a handful of 4.0s rejected from the same colleges. I’d be more worried about the responses you’re going to get on this thread. ;)

“You’re school must have serious grade inflation if a 93 is making you question your college chances.”

I agree.

Or the OP could just not know about college admissions. Cmon, there are news articles like every day about how hard it is to get into college now, and how what used to be good is no longer good. His parents didn’t go to college either. Give the kid a break. Geez.

thats the grading system at my school and I have to go with the masses here and say its one grade and you’re ranked number one, so don’t fret

hahahaha wow u guys flamed the hell about him/her

porkfriedrice… you will be fine grade-wise

but you are still an idiot

Please don’t post crap like that around here. It makes everyone angry at you for bragging.

Here I am with a 50% in Chemistry and you’re worried about a 93%? pathetic…

Is everyone around here so insecure that we can’t forget our uber-competitiveness to answer somebody’s question?

She/He said that she/he was sorry. Let’s just leave it at that and put away the flamethrowers.

PorkFriedRice…I think that the most important way in which you could address a perceived (mind you, perceived) level of incompetence in a certain class is to have a one-on-one talk with the teacher, perhaps explaining your study method and attitude towards chemistry and getting recommendations from him/her. Many of the kids in my chem class (about 5 left from class of 27) made the mistake of thinking of the teacher as an enemy intent on destroying their hopes and dreams.

Do you honestly think that a bunch of people (smart, but sometimes I wonder…) lurking on the Internet will help you study better than the teacher of the course?

The teacher is your friend. Use him/her.

P.S. I don’t think an insane amount of studying is going to help. Someone can say they’ve worked hard who beats their fists against a wall for hours. Guess what…the wall is still standing, and your hands are smarting.

Work smart, not hard…that’s my motto.

I think a 93 is terrible. You should just kill yourself right now.

Once again, I hate overachievers.

WHOA…WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???

wow you all must be really insecure to post things like that when someone was trying to ASK A QUESTION.

god what losers. its actually really funny. LMAO

Good job at bumping an old thread.

The OP was asking a stupid question. A 93 in one class would not affect his chances in college admissions. There. I answered the question, now let this thread die.

A low A is fine, but if you do get a 92 and it lowers your GPA enough so that you start losing rank, then you might worry (a teeeeeeeny tiny bit maybe)

However, I think the difference between being Valedictorian/Salutatorian is negligible. especially if you are applying to the top schools (since they reject a huge % of their Val/sals anyways), but since you are already at the top, just try to hold onto your spot

don’t stress about the low A as long as it’s an A

Your lucky that your school calculates class rank WITH weight. At our school, everything is unweighted: gifted/honors classes and AP classes. The grade you get in that class is not raised by any percentages or any of that nonsense. So, I’m saying that somebody who takes slow classes with all A’s and A+'s are on the same level in the class rank area as those who take all the hardest classes but still manage the A’s and A+'s.

If you can’t get above that grade, you ARE NOT STUDYING ENOUGH. Chemistry can be one of the most difficult subjects depending on the teacher. If you aren’t getting 100’s or near perfect scores on the test, you simply aren’t studying enough!

I’m laughing so hard right now. Dude, i’m lucky if I make it out of AP calculus alive!

Colleges recalculate your GPA with honors, AP, and IB.

AP student with lower GPA > regular student with high GPA
