How much will emory cost?

my parents efc is 19950 dollars and emory is like 41,000 dollars.

that’s a huge gap!

if i get in regular decision, how much will i get in terms of merit, work study, loans in that order.

i don’t want to accumulate a debt of more than like 15,000 dollars.

also, would i be tightpressed for money since i would be living near the city since city life is pretty expensive?

emory doesnt give merit unless youre an emory scholar. and the south tends to have low cost of living expenses. im not sure what it is for atlanta, but its really really cheap in texas.

in other words, if youre coming from the northeast or west, itll be a lot less than you think.

Atlanta, especially the Emory area, is a lot more expensive than Texas. Houses in the Emory area tend to go for at least 500k…if they’re on the small side. That said, you’re obviously not buying a house, and you can get cheap college food anywhere. I don’t really know your situation, but I have a full-tuition scholarship, and my expenses are usually about $5000/semester.

for money spent in the city, it depends on what you like to do. if you hate frat parties, you might spend a lot, considering youll need taxis to take you to clubs and bars. if youre content at a frat, then you wont spend much money. i rarely spend money on anything but diet coke because i dont really go off campus much, since i enjoy the parties here.

Emory gives good aid, so how you come out on their financial aid process will determine your package.

I have a problem jamimom, in short my dad’s efc is 20,000 and my state school (SUNY system) costs 15,000 dollars after room and board and everything.

Thus, my dad (traditional conservative pakistani) is willling to pay up to 15,000 dollars a year however our EFC is 20,000 dollars.

Jamimom what do you recommend? Am i screwed at all schools over 20,000 (since I’m onyl willing to accrue a TOTAL loan of about 20,000 dollars and if my dad’s efc is 20,000 there will be some loan (about 3-5000) to reach the 20,000 point by itself)).

And reasoning with my dad won’t help because he’s fixed with 15,000 (because he believes that it doesn’t matter where you go, as long as you become a doctor etc etc. Which is true, but I feel like i’m being screwed big term by going to SUNY because everyone gets admitted equally (no scholarships, no grants or anything for the SUNYS!!!))).

And to get into SUNY isn’t anythuing beneficial, because I know the academics are tough and major weeding for grad school (Like SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Geneseo. Hard schools in themselves, but Geneseo has no name recognition, and Binghamton is rude and ignores its students. Could care lessa bout them (because the professors are concerned with their own research for example)))
