how much will my rank hurt me ? (Rice university)

hi, i’m a current junior and am planning on applying to rice university in the fall. i’m asian, from texas, not applying for FA, will be doing ED as well as applying to the Rice/Baylor combined med program, and intend to major in bioengineering with pre-med advising. i go to a competitive, large school with a magnet program in international studies; my rank’s not that great and i’m worried that it’ll hurt my chances of getting into Rice.

GPA: 3.88/4.0 UW , 5.27/6.0 weighted
Rank: 153/613 (:confused: should go up, since my weighted gpa will be about a 5.4 at the end of this year)
SAT: 2240 superscored (710 math, 740 reading, 790 writing)
planning on taking SAT IIs in world history, bio, math level 2
planning on taking ACT (so far averaging about a 32 on my practice tests)

freshman year i took regular geometry, bio, theatre, spanish 2, journalism, honors world geo and honors english
sophomore year i took world history AP, spanish 3 honors, english honors, dance, theatre 2, regular chem, regular alg 2
junior year: honors pre cal, AP human geo, honors business, AP english lang, theatre 3, AP spanish lang, AP physics 1, regular us history
senior year: student leadership honors, academic decathlon honors, independent research honors, AP bio, AP calc ab, AP english lit, ( and im trying to take AP chem but my counselor might not let me)
and doing AP macro, AP us gov over the summer

summer activities: (besides ap classes) include a summer workshop at Rice University and a pre-health program at a different university, as well as some freshman mentorship stuff

awards: some school-wide awards, a few DECA awards, NSE gold award

ECs:
did a political leadership program last month
international thespian honor society, as well as leadership roles (stage manager, assistant director, etc.) and other minor tech/acting roles in 10 ish school plays
copy edited the school newspaper freshman year
did karate up until end of freshman year (dont know if i should list that on my app though since i quit ?)
chaired a committee for a local educational campaign to advocate for religious tolerance
part of a peer tutoring program to help struggling freshmen
robotics club
HOSA
Future Physicians of America
Science NHS
DECA
NHS
i also participated in American Math Competition but didn’t win anything, so i don’t know if i’d list that lol ?

will graduate with ~200 volunteer hours
my recs and essays should be pretty strong, and i will be doing an on campus interview in a few months.

so please let me know what my chances are and what you think i could do to improve my chances; thanks in advance for any help you can give!

lol i think we go to the same school but idk could be wrong

if you go to my school, rank will probably hurt you cause even some of the top ten people didnt get into rice…

Lol maybe we do go to the same school? I personally don’t know anyone who had a rank similar to mine and applied to rice this year, but I do know that all the people who are going from here are at least top 15%

You stats are good enough that I would consider you qualified. You certainly have a shot at getting in but you aren’t a shoe-in (even most admits aren’t shoe-ins though). It doesn’t look like you have any deal-breakers, but you don’t have any hooks either, so it really depends on factors we cannot predict. Where are you from and what is your ethnicity? Neither of these factors are going to make or break your application, but they could help us better assess you chances.

@TXCAVA i’m in texas (kind of close to rice) and asian

i’m going to see if one of the professors from my summer program at rice will write me a rec when i apply
and i’m a female going into engineering so those will hopefully help ?
