How much will my UW GPA hurt my chances for Georgetown College and other top schools? Chance me?

Hello! So my unweighted GPA as of now is only 3.7 and I’m pretty worried at how much it’ll affect my EA chances (and regular admission chances for that matter) for GU, Hopkins, Berkeley, UCLA etc. My school is highly ranked and I’ve taken the most rigorous courseloads freshman and sophomore year.

As for APs and grades each year…

Freshman year I got straight A’s, all honors, ahead a year in math, but no APs were available for that grade

AP Chem sophomore year (it’s the only AP available to sophomores; that year I completely ruined my GPA with a few B’s in honors classes and chem and one C second semester AP Chem /: )

Junior year I took AP calc, AP biology, and AP environmental geoscience. (Not the hardest courseload; I didn’t take honors english and APUSH.) Almost straight A’s, didn’t study for my calc final because I thought I’d be fine and got a B second semester in that lol. Did ok on AP exams, got fours.

Senior year my classes are relatively easy again, AP physics (which my focus’ll be on), AP stat, AP psych, h english, h anatomy, h social issues and a few other things

Unweighted GPA: 3.7*****if my AP chem subject test doesn’t ruin me I’m pretty sure this will. (Out of 4.0)

Weighted GPA: 4.6 (out of 5.0)

ACT score: 33 composite (34 in english, 35 in math, 32 in reading, 31 in science)

SAT: Not taking

Awards: Nothing really except a few for French freshman and sophomore year

Rank: School doesn’t tell us

Subject Tests: I’m taking Math II and Bio M subject tests October and am aiming for above 750 on both (the only other one I took was the Chem subject test sophomore year and messed that up completely with a 660…sadly GU doesn’t participate in score choice)

EC’s: Decent/good, won’t go into a ton of detail but plenty of volunteer work, cancer fundraising, artistic talent, self taught guitar player, starting a club, medical internship (which I want to go into), and have traveled to do charity work in a refugee camp over the summer, few other experiences/hobbies

Recommendations: From APES teacher should be great since we’re pretty close and recommendation from english teacher will be stellar (he’s saying I’m his best writer and he’s been known to write the best recs), I’m also getting a strong recommendation letter from the dean of a hospital I shadowed at over the summer. My counselor will probably be pretty good but I haven’t heard enough about his recs to determine much.

College essays: Not done with all of them, but imo the few I have are creatively written and passionate regarding social issues and some interesting experiences, and how they’ve molded my outlook and my future goals and how I’m preparing for them, etc etc, show extreme interest in the college. I still have to conference w/ my teachers about them, but writing is one of my strong suits so I’m not worried about that.

Hooks: Nothing is really spectacular. I’ve moved around a ton, have lived out of country. Fluent in Farsi. Does immigrant parents count for anything when they’re doctors?

Interview: Not yet, I’m pretty social though so hopefully that goes fine (although I am terrified to my very core lol)

Oh also if I do get into Georgetown, I’m interested in majoring in neurobiology.

I know asking to get “chanced” at such difficult universities is near pointless because you really never know; I’m particularly curious if my other scores/activities are strong enough to make up for the low GPA.

bumpp?

Looks like you have as good a chance as anyone getting into GU. I went there 30 years ago and would probably not get in now. My daughter is in a similar situation. 3.8 unweighted and GU is on her list. Best of luck!

i wouldnt recommend applying to georgetown ea— for some reason they are more selective with ea applicants than with the rd pool.

@jihihihi Wouldn’t it not hurt since they’ll defer applicants who didn’t get in ed into the rd pool anyways?

thats true, but i still heard that its much easier to get in regular decision. i havent looked into it that much though, so i could be wrong
